Polycom’s stock surged yesterday gaining 13 percent on the market’s close proving my 40-days old PLCM stock pick correct! Back then I had applied basic technical analysis on the monthly chart and decided to risk going long PLCM, setting a stop loss right below the last price level the stock price found support. I had also mentioned that I would trade 70% of the position out at $22 but given the [...]

I put a new sports trading system to the test today. One of the picks led me to trade pregame the odds of Hoffenheim that hosted a Bundesliga match against Hannover. The Betfair graph shows the odds’ decline from 2.00 to 1.75 before the game kicked off. Due to the breakout that happened in the morning, I backed Hoffenheim to win with the intention to lay at shorter odds. Indeed, I exited the trade [...]

My sports trading system used to be very profitable when I began trading the odds of horse racing markets in 2004 and remained so for 2 years. That seems a long time back, but I thought of publishing metrics of the system’s performance, since I nowadays keep reading about drawdown, profit factor and ROI figures of systems in stock, futures and forex trading. In my opinion, that would make a nice [...]

Netflix stock provided the necessary volatility required in day trading yesterday, as the NASDAQ stock gained 15% during regular trading session. NFLX stock opened with a gap since last day’s close but in less than an hour that gap had filled, while the market reacted in the first minutes of trading pushing the stock’s price down to $87.25. Yet, Netflix would quickly see their shares resume the [...]

Deciding to start investing or trading stocks can be intimidating for many. Even understanding how to read the stock market pages and graphs can seem like trying to read hieroglyphics. Working with a broker can help you better make sense of your options and learn what you need to know to make smart investing decisions. Choosing the right broker to work with is just as important as determining what [...]

The 2012 holiday calendar showing all stock market holidays of this year has been made available at Interactive Brokers website. Traders may keep the PDF files in their computers or install the application in their mobile devices to keep track of not only NYSE holidays but Europe and Asia-Pasific holidays as well. A holiday calendar can help traders prepare their trading schedule or plan for spending [...]

EUR/USD tested the resistance level of yesterday’s pivot point at 1.3242 before falling down to the S2 pivot point for a 200 pips’ decline, hitting the low at 1.3009. The breakout pattern at the 15-minute forex chart was the signal that triggered my trading order and I was short EUR/USD in the middle of the day at 1.3158. Twenty minutes later I was scaling out 80% of my position buying 80,000 [...]

Does Zone Alarm ring a bell? It is a security product by Check Point Software Technologies Ltd (NASDAQ:CHKP) which has been used by almost all computer users. I remember myself installing Zone Alarm Firewall quite a few times in my 80386 and Pentium machines back in the 90’s. Perhaps that is reason behind the impressive uptrend of CHKP stock in 2000! Fast forward to 2011 CHKP is one of this week’s [...]

I added Comstock Resources (NYSE:CRK) in my stock trading watch list today. The NYSE stock is trading at 16.80 dollar per share after testing the support level at $14. Technical analysis says that a previous resistance level can act as a support level in the future and that is the case at monthly CRK stock chart. The stock price bounced off a level that used to be a resistance level back in 2000 and [...]

Technical analysis in currency trading shows signals for downtrend at the EUR/USD chart. Interactive Brokers forex trading platform can draw daily bars at the EUR/USD chart back to 2 years and that is sufficient to point out the upwards trend line that was broken in September. Since the EUR/USD uptrend ended in summer 2011 and sellers took control of euro, trading currency with forex trading tools [...]

US markets open to strong gains on Friday morning as the news of growth in the US labor market and the fall of the unemployment level to its lowest point in over two years gave investors a reason to be hopeful that the United States economic recovery is indeed underway. November saw an increase of 120,000 in Non-farm payrolls, while the unemployment rate fell to 8.6%, its lowest level since 2009. [...]

One of the stock picks I tipped yesterday gapped up and gained 13.30%! I thought of traders wondering how to trade Assured Guaranty Ltd (NYSE:AGO) stock when shares gained 1 dollar right on the market’s open! It’s easier to trade a stock that is trading at the support level than when the stock gaps up, since the stop loss needs to be adjusted in order to manage your capital more efficient. Most [...]

It seems highly improbable considering the dismal headlines lately that anyone would be investing in the US housing industry. Home prices are currently a third lower from their peak in 2006, and home ownership has also fallen to new lows. There has been new life, however, in residential construction stocks which have risen by 6.5% in the past three months, versus the 1.9% gain for the S&P 500 [...]

Five US stocks to watch from consumer, technology, healthcare and energy sector of the US stock market were left since I posted recommended US stocks for position trading. While the stock watch list included 4 stocks of the financial sector, technical analysis at 5 other stock charts suggests position trading might become profitable in the long run. Most of these stocks experienced double-digit gains [...]

Nine US stock charts incline towards a long term uptrend suited for traders into position trading. These stocks come from finance, technology, healthcare and consumer sectors and have all been pointed out in my Ninja Trader market analyzer screen via the custom indicator we discussed a couple of days ago. According to the indicator though more than 30 stocks formed a bullish candlestick pattern after [...]
