Does Zone Alarm ring a bell? It is a security product by Check Point Software Technologies Ltd (NASDAQ:CHKP) which has been used by almost all computer users. I remember myself installing Zone Alarm Firewall quite a few times in my 80386 and Pentium machines back in the 90’s. Perhaps that is reason behind the impressive uptrend of CHKP stock in 2000! Fast forward to 2011 CHKP is one of this week’s [...]

I added Comstock Resources (NYSE:CRK) in my stock trading watch list today. The NYSE stock is trading at 16.80 dollar per share after testing the support level at $14. Technical analysis says that a previous resistance level can act as a support level in the future and that is the case at monthly CRK stock chart. The stock price bounced off a level that used to be a resistance level back in 2000 and [...]

US markets open to strong gains on Friday morning as the news of growth in the US labor market and the fall of the unemployment level to its lowest point in over two years gave investors a reason to be hopeful that the United States economic recovery is indeed underway. November saw an increase of 120,000 in Non-farm payrolls, while the unemployment rate fell to 8.6%, its lowest level since 2009. [...]

One of the stock picks I tipped yesterday gapped up and gained 13.30%! I thought of traders wondering how to trade Assured Guaranty Ltd (NYSE:AGO) stock when shares gained 1 dollar right on the market’s open! It’s easier to trade a stock that is trading at the support level than when the stock gaps up, since the stop loss needs to be adjusted in order to manage your capital more efficient. Most [...]

It seems highly improbable considering the dismal headlines lately that anyone would be investing in the US housing industry. Home prices are currently a third lower from their peak in 2006, and home ownership has also fallen to new lows. There has been new life, however, in residential construction stocks which have risen by 6.5% in the past three months, versus the 1.9% gain for the S&P 500 [...]

Five US stocks to watch from consumer, technology, healthcare and energy sector of the US stock market were left since I posted recommended US stocks for position trading. While the stock watch list included 4 stocks of the financial sector, technical analysis at 5 other stock charts suggests position trading might become profitable in the long run. Most of these stocks experienced double-digit gains [...]

Nine US stock charts incline towards a long term uptrend suited for traders into position trading. These stocks come from finance, technology, healthcare and consumer sectors and have all been pointed out in my Ninja Trader market analyzer screen via the custom indicator we discussed a couple of days ago. According to the indicator though more than 30 stocks formed a bullish candlestick pattern after [...]

In a challenging market environment such as the one that has been seen recently, it is important to look to tried and true investing strategies have been working for investors. A prime example of an opportunity-rich area is in the energy sector, where United States has seen a boom in oil and gas production. There has been a lot of activity in the oil-rich regions of the United States such as Texas’ [...]

In the United States, Black Friday tends to be a holiday onto itself. Black Friday is the name given to the Friday after Thanksgiving and marks the kick off to the holiday shopping season. This shopping day is often the largest, most profitable shopping day of the year for many retailers. In the US, consumers often camp-out in front of stores for hours, and sometimes days in order to take advantage [...]

Even in the toughest of economic environments, there are industries and sectors that continue to perform well and even prosper in uncertain markets. The fact is that no matter how bad the economy may be, people need to eat, fuel their vehicles, and put clothes on their backs. For many people, there is one area of their lives where they will continue to spend and even splurge – their children. [...]

It has been a difficult time to be a global bank investor, to say the least, as the crisis in Europe continues on and the US economy remains painfully sluggish. As the news of Italy’s troubles spread, new concerns arose of the health of the Euro zone’s heavily intertwined financial system. The embattled region had no sooner agreed to a 106 billion euro plan to shore up struggling institutions [...]

MEMC Electronic Materials shares traded in the lows of the 52-week range last week, but found support for the third time at $4.50 and were up 3.90% on Friday, indicating possible bullish reaction this week. MEMC Electronic Materials stock (NYSE:WFR) has traded up to the all-time high of 96 dollars per share back in 2007 and lost more than 80% of their stock value during 2008! The 52-week range’s [...]

A spike in Italian bond yields to levels not previously seen in the Euro zone sent global markets spiraling downward on Wednesday morning as uncertainty over the ability of a new government in Italy to tackle the country’s debt crisis frightened already skittish investors. Banks and energy stocks led the S&P 500 lower at the open, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average off by more than 200 [...]

The US economy has been on a seemingly never-ending treadmill as of late. Primarily consumer spending driven, the economy has stalled on low consumer confidence levels, exacerbated by continuous media coverage of said low confidence levels, slow job growth, and home prices that seem to have no bottom. These circumstances feed off of each other, creating a viscous cycle that continues to hamper real [...]

European markets fell Tuesday morning, and US market were set to open lower following the Greek announcement that a vote on the bailout package will be allowed, throwing into question the fate of Greece in the European union, and igniting calls for the resignation of Greece’s Prime Minister George Papandreou. While many had hoped that last week’s summit would quell fears in a turbulent [...]
